Biographical data

He attended elementary school and the first four grades of high school in Budapest; the fifth and sixth grades of high school at the Piarist school in Vác; and the seventh and eighth grades at the Jesuit high school in Kalocsa. He entered the order on August 14, 1934. He completed his novitiate at Manréza. He studied philosophy in Budapest and Košice from 1938 to 1940. From 1942 to 1946, he studied theology in Szeged. He was ordained a priest in Szeged on June 25, 1944. In 1947, he completed his third probation at Manréza. He left for abroad in 1949 and then moved to Canada in 1972. On March 5, 1953, the day of Stalin’s death, he recalled how his mother had taught the future dictator to pray, and what kind of faith they had sought to instill in him as a young Orthodox seminarian. The text, which began with the salutation “Dear Joszip Viszarionovics!”, seemed to address him personally. Of course, he also went on to mention how many times throughout his life he had renounced the creed he had learned at the seminary and often sung and prayed, but now he, too, knows that it is true word for word.
