Biographical data
His parents were István Marton, a police officer, and Mária Zirig; his brother was István Henrik Marton, O.Cist. He began his high school studies in Budapest at the Piarist school. He left the country after 1956 and lived as a refugee in Switzerland and Spain. He entered the Society in Dallas, TX, USA, on September 7, 1961, after graduating from the local Jesuit high school. He took his first vows on September 8, 1962. From 1962 to 1963, he was a theology student at the University of Dallas in Dallas, TX. In 1968, he earned a doctorate in theology in Rome at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant’Anselmo. He took his perpetual vows on January 15, 1967, in Rome, where he was ordained a priest on July 26, 1967. He earned a master’s degree in French language teaching from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. On numerous occasions—even in his later years—he ran the marathon. He has been retired in Dallas, TX, USA, since 2024.
