Biographical data
His name is known in several forms. The most common is Nándor Koncság, but he is listed as Ferdinánd Koncság in the Jesuit register. In addition, the variants Consag, Konsak, Kúnsági, and Konschak are also known. He moved to Buda with his family during his childhood, where he studied at the Jesuit college. He entered the order on October 22, 1719. He spent his novitiate years in Trenčín. He was ordained a priest in Graz in 1728. He took his final vows on March 25, 1738. During his missionary work, he also made geographical discoveries: he explored previously unknown regions, including the Colorado Valley, the Arizona Desert, and the area that is now New Mexico. With his map of Lower California, he proved that this area was not an island, but a peninsula.
