Biographical data
His admirers called him “Old Friend.” He attended the Cistercian high school in Pécs. He entered the Franciscan Order on September 11, 1925, and took his final vows on December 20, 1930. He was ordained a priest in Gyöngyös on June 19, 1932.
When Serbian partisan units occupied Novi Sad on October 26, 1944, he tried to rescue his fellow monks, but they stayed with him. At the time of the arrest, one of his fellow monks managed to arrange for Father Chrysostom—who appeared much older due to illness—to be released, but he would have agreed to this only if his fellow monks went with him. The guards would not allow this, so he too was sent to the transit camp on October 26. At 10:00 p.m. on October 27, 1944, soldiers appeared; among others, they called out Father Chrysostom’s name and, under the pretext of releasing them, placed them in another barracks. On the evening of October 28, 1944, around 8–9 p.m., the selected individuals were tied together in groups of three, then forced to run and beaten to death.

His beatification is currently underway; the diocesan investigation began in 2011, and on November 18, 2013, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints received the case file.
