Biographical data
Jeromos Ferenc Hédly, OFM, was born in Pápa on February 7, 1885. He completed his secondary education in Pápa, then entered the Marian Province of the Franciscans on August 23, 1899. He took his solemn vows on July 11, 1906, and was ordained a priest on June 27, 1907. During his ministry in Hungary, he served as a college professor in Malacka, a preacher in Budapest, and prefect of the order’s university students; he was also house superior in Pozsony, Budapest, Nagykanizsa, and Pápa. During World War I, between 1915 and 1918, he served as a field chaplain on the Eastern Front; this is confirmed by the Budapest City Archives.

Around 1927, he moved to North America, where he served among Hungarian Catholic communities in Cleveland, and later in Hamilton and Welland, Canada. In Welland, he was associated with the Church of Our Lady of Hungary and the mission house. Later, he led the Hungarian mission church in Roebling. During his illness, Zénó Hajnal, OFM, administered the last rites to him and later buried him in Roebling.
