He was a second-generation Hungarian. His parents were Gyula Dismachek and Krisztina Zsarnotsky; he had four siblings. Some sources list his first name as Pál. His parents emigrated from Transylvania to the United States. He was ordained a priest in 1934. At the invitation of Lajos Shvoy, the diocesan bishop of Székesfehérvár, he stayed in Hungary from 1939 to 1940 to improve his language skills. The bishop sent him to Polgárdi as an assistant pastor. Due to the war situation, U.S. authorities required him to return home. He is buried at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in West Mifflin, PA, USA.
