His parents were József and Gizella Bisztyó.
He studied theology in Rome, where he earned a doctorate in theology from the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum. He was ordained a priest in Rome on October 26, 1947, but did not return home; his citizenship was revoked in 1948.
He spoke several languages fluently.
From 2003 onward, he lived in retirement in Kalocsa. Many of his lectures are available on YouTube.
