Biographical data
His birth name was István Dominyák, which he changed to Nyiri on September 12, 1912. He completed his high school studies in Nagykálló and Lőcse, then passed his secondary school graduation exam at the Premonstratensian monastery in Košice. He studied theology in Nagyvárad, where he was ordained a priest on February 17, 1910, by Bishop Antal Fetser, the vicar general. He earned his doctorate in theology from the University of Szeged on December 15, 1923. On October 15, 1923, he was transferred to the Diocese of Székesfehérvár, but he did not serve there; instead, he left for the United States. He died at home as a result of a heart attack.
