Biographical data
His mother’s name was Apolonia Herceg. According to other sources, his first name was János. As a seminarian, he went to Cuba in 1937, then moved to the Dominican Republic at an unknown date. After 1974, he served as the Dominican director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (De Propaganda Fide).
On June 16, 1961, he founded the women’s community known as the Misioneras Parroquiales de María Auxiliadora, which was approved as a pious union by Archbishop Octavio A. Beras of Santo Domingo.
He is a significant figure in the Dominican Salesian tradition: in Mocha, he was associated with the Scout movement, the education of young people, and pastoral care among the poor. According to one account, he was a leader of the Cub Scouts in Moca and later remained an influential mentor at the Oratorio Don Bosco in Santo Domingo.
