Biographical data
He was born on January 26, 1920, in Szombathely. He completed his high school studies at the St. Norbert High School of the Premonstratensian Order in Szombathely. On August 14, 1938, he donned the white habit of the Premonstratensians at the Premonstratensian Provostry in Csorna. He pursued theological studies at the Order’s College of Theology in Csorna, at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and at the Jesuit College in Szeged. He took his perpetual vows in Rome on April 8, 1943, before the Abbot General. He was also ordained a priest in Rome on July 11, 1943, by Archbishop Traglia. In 1945, he earned a licentiate in theology in Csorná, and then, from 1947 to 1948, he prepared for his doctorate in theology at the Central Seminary. When the operating licenses of the religious orders were revoked, he went abroad with the permission of his superiors. He lived first in the Netherlands and then in the United States. Beginning in 1958, he studied at the University of Madison and then at Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.), where he earned a master’s degree in International Political Science. In 1973, he officially transferred from the Csornai Provostry to St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere. In 1974, he earned a master’s degree in Latin American history from the University of St. Louis. In 1965, the Hungarian Society of Cleveland awarded him the Árpád Medal. He returned to Hungary in 1991. He spent his final years at the priests’ home in Székesfehérvár; although he had lost his sight, he continued to write articles for the Hungarian Catholic press even then.
