Biographical data
His parents were Father Bazil Martyák and Katalin Janovits. He was the brother of Miklós and Viktor Martyák. His wife was Irén Dudinszky; they had one daughter. He was ordained a priest on February 15, 1885. He was widowed in 1908. Several sources mistakenly refer to him as a bishop, as he was not consecrated as a bishop but served as an apostolic administrator in the United States from 1916 to 1924. His task was to coordinate Greek Catholic pastors of Hungarian origin. Through his generous donations, he helped fund the construction of many Hungarian Greek Catholic churches in the United States. In recognition of his service, he was granted the title of papal prelate.
