Biographical data
His parents were János Maczkó and Mária Karaffa. He completed his studies in Uzhhorod, having begun them as a seminarian in the Diocese of Munkács; in 1922, he was transferred to the Diocese of Hajdúdorog. Bishop Nicetas Budka ordained him as a priest of the Diocese of Hajdúdorog on August 10, 1922. He was a married pastor. His wife was Magdolna Volosin (†1985); their children were Magdolna (1923), Alice (1926), and József (1928). He presumably arrived in the United States on December 28, 1921, aboard the steamship Nieuw Amsterdam. From 1924 onward, he served under the Apostolic Exarchate of Pittsburgh.
