Biographical data
There is no information regarding his entry into the order, the date of his vows, or the place and date of his ordination (which certainly took place abroad). His father was a high-ranking military officer who was demoted after 1945, expelled from the army, and deported. He left the country before 1953, as his memoirs indicate that his parents were still living in exile at that time, a situation that lasted until 1953. He earned a doctorate in philosophy in Rome, but did not obtain a doctorate in theology because he had such differences of opinion with his professors on dogmatic issues that he was not awarded the degree. He arrived in Argentina in the early 1960s, where he participated in Hungarian pastoral work for a short time. Hundreds of anecdotes about his life have been recorded; he was a very popular man. At an unknown date, he left the priesthood and married Pía Reales, who had previously served as a nun and later became the head nurse at the hospital in El Maitén. He was a teacher for 44 years, retiring in 2014; the local school library and the street where the school is located were named after him. According to recollections, he never sought a leadership position, but was always available to his students, serving as a sort of “civilian pastor.” In the town, he was known as “Tío Kuthy,” or “Uncle Kuthy” in English.
