Biographical data
He studied theology at Pázmány Péter University and earned a doctorate in theology. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1927. As a member of the National Assembly, he protested against the German occupation and the deportation of Jews. After the war, he opposed the emerging communist regime and therefore expected to be arrested at any moment. He went into hiding for 16 months and then fled to Austria in 1948. He lived in the United States from 1951 to 1955. In 1970, he served as president of the Free Hungarian Congress of Europe. He delivered a eulogy at the funeral of József Mindszenty in 1976.
