Biographical data
Antal Izay, a Greek Catholic priest, was born on September 5, 1862, in Nagyszőlős. He completed his theological studies in Uzhhorod, where he was ordained a priest on October 3, 1886, by János Pásztélyi Kovács, Bishop of Mukachevo. He began his pastoral ministry in Hajdúdorog, then served as a parish priest in Dünkófalva, Széleslonk, and Falucska. Between 1901 and 1903, he served the Greek Catholic immigrant communities in the Wilkes-Barre area of Pennsylvania, United States. In 1928, he was awarded the honorary title of dean, and he retired in 1932. He passed away on December 11 of that same year in Sátoraljaújhely.
