Biographical data
At the age of eight, he emigrated to the United States with his widowed mother, and they settled in Cleveland, OH. He completed his high school studies at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, and later attended seminary in Lisle, IL, and Rome. Later, for health reasons, he moved to Uzhhorod. He was ordained a priest by Bazil Takács on September 30, 1934, and immediately emigrated to the United States. On June 30, 1946, he was appointed coadjutor auxiliary bishop to Bazil Takács, who was suffering from cancer. His episcopal consecration took place on November 5, 1946. In 1951, he had the Greek Catholic seminary in Pittsburgh built and handed it over, and he also advocated for the settlement of Greek Catholic monks. On December 2, 1954, he submitted his resignation from the episcopate, and in 1957 he was laicized and married. His wife’s name was Elisabeth. He spoke both Hungarian and Rusyn.
