He completed his theological studies in Szeged and then in Kalocsa. He was ordained a priest on June 3, 1882. Between 1906 and 1910, he was the subject of an ecclesiastical trial, as a result of which he was suspended in 1908 for leaving his post without permission; financial irregularities had also come to light, and he was wanted for embezzlement, so he left for the United States. He was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. According to the Hungarian Biographical Lexicon, he died in 1912, but this information is demonstrably incorrect, as numerous sources confirm that he remained in active service until 1925.
