Biographical data
Mészáros István Endre testvére. Gimnáziumi tanulmányait a kőszegi bencéseknél kezdte meg, majd a veszprémi kisszemináriumban érettségizett 1937-ben. Ezt követően a teológiát az innsbrucki (Ausztria) és a sitteni (Sion, Svájc) szemináriumban folytatta, és itt szentelték pappá 1943. június 27-én. A háborús helyzet megakadályozta, hogy doktori tanulmányait folytassa. 1944-ben az üldözöttek segítése miatt a nyilasok letartóztatták, püspökével Mindszenty Józseffel szabadult 1945. április 2-án. 1948. április 27-én a Katonapolitikai osztály beosztottjai az esti órákban Veszprémben, a nyílt utcán tartóztatták le. Kihallgatását követően átadták a szovjeteknek. A Baden bei Wienben székelő Szovjet Katonai Törvényszék Harangozó Ferenccel és társaival együtt 25 évi javító-nevelő munkatáborban letöltendő szabadságvesztésre ítélte. Több szovjet lágert megjárva 1955. november 25-én tért haza, nyilvános misézéstől eltiltva Felsőpatyon rendőri felügyelet alatt állt. 1948-ba XII. Piusz pápa monsignore címmel tüntette ki. 1955-ben szabadult, ezután hazatért a Gulagról, s mezőgazdasági munkákat végzett, mivel megtagadta, hogy a püspökségen jelentkezzen szolgálattételre, amit püspöke tudomásul vett. 1956-ban hagyta el az országot, magyar állampolgárságától megfosztották. 1972 és 1975 között Mindszenty József bíboros másodtitkára volt, számos lelkipásztori útján kísérte el. 1991-ben tiltakozásképpen Mindszenty József holtestének hazaszállítása ellen odaláncolta magát a Mariacellben található síremlékhez. Adományából épült a veszprémi Mindszenty-emléktemplom. Az Orosz Föderáció Legfőbb Katonai Ügyészsége 1996. május 24-én bűncselekmény hiányában rehabilitálta. 1996-ban agyvérzést kapott, ettől kezdve nagyon keveset tudott beszélni, írni, olvasni és járni szinte egyáltalán nem tudott.
